A dinner has something a gala has to work hard for: proximity. The room is smaller, the cause is closer, and people can hear each other. Handled well, a dinner of eighty can out-raise a ball of four hundred per guest.
The design changes accordingly. Fewer lots, chosen more carefully. A pledge that can afford to be personal, because the room is small enough for it to feel like a conversation rather than an announcement. Games that suit a room where everybody can see everybody.
